Countless studies have demonstrated that multi-media teaching aids help students to absorb more information, more quickly, and more enjoyably than traditional classroom lectures.

In the Abolition News Network’s DVD series "On the Road to the Abolition of Slavery" © students can see and listen to important characters from the slave era. In the interviews, the characters explain their actions and motivations in their own words on topics such as the abolition of slavery, the Underground Railroad, the slave trade and its cruelty and how slaves escaped their bondage.

The opportunity for empathy, engagement and understanding goes far beyond what can be achieved in a textbook or lecture alone.

Although this is not a taught course, teachers, parents and other instructors will find the Teacher’s Guide an important resource. It contains additional facts, provocative questions and the series’ bibliography.

"We have to study slavery, this is not something that can be forgotten," said Abolition News Network Founder Steve Edison. "Its consequences pervade our lives today, all of our civil rights problems have come from slavery."
